Our 2004 Seniors The Hurricanes wished a fond farewell to 3 graduating seniors and 1 returning collegiate who "aged out" of MCSL competition in 2004. Each of these fine young adults had a dramatic impact on shaping our young team. Matt Anderson -- Matt began swimming years ago when he joined the Hurricanes at age 14. He immediately took to the sport and began swimming with RMSC at the Olney Swim Center that same year. Matt also swam all 4 years while attending Sherwood High School, serving as team co-captain during his senior year and being named a Scholar Athlete all 4 years as well. For the past 2 years, Matt has helped lead our Might 8 & Unders as one of our team's junior coaches. This season, Matt earned a spot on our Team Record board, swimming the team's 3rd fastest time ever in the 15-18 boys 100 meter backstroke. He also was named one of the first recipients of the Sarah Auer Memorial Scholarship, which was recently founded in honor of long-time MCSL and RMSC swimmer and coach Sarah Auer. Matt will be putting that scholarship to use while attending Salisbury State University in the fall, where he will also be a member of the school's swim team. Sarah Krehbiel -- Sarah also has been a member of the team for its entire 13 years of existence. She is one of the team's very first All-Stars, having qualified in breaststroke as an 8 & under. Sarah set many of the team's first team and pool records, and still holds the 3rd fastest time ever swum by one of our team members in the 9-10 girls 25 meter breast stroke. She has been a Hurricane coach for the past 3 years, this year serving as co-Pre Team Coach. Sarah graduated from Sherwood High School this spring. While at Sherwood, Sarah was a cheerleader for 4 years, serving as captain her senior year. She also was a 4-year participant in the school's famous annual Rock & Roll Show. It's a little-known fact that Sarah practiced her talents here at Hallowell, where she and fellow graduate Emily Baker were famous for their team Talent Show performances. For the past 13 years, Sarah has shared her spirit and talent readily with all of us. Beginning in the fall, her smile will light up the campus at the University of Maryland, where she will be majoring in Hearing & Speech. Clark Mercer -- Clark is a Hurricane original, having joined the team 13 years ago at age 6. At age 8, Clark was a member of the winning backstroke relay team at All-Star Relays, along with fellow graduates Sarah Krehbiel, Emily Baker and Hurricane Andrew Peacemaker. These four must have won the race so decisively that the League decided to drop the event from the All-Star Relay lineup after that year. A graduate of Sherwood High School this spring, Clark was a member of the school's swim team, excelling in freestyle and breaststroke and qualifying for Metros in breaststroke each year. Medical challenges prevented Clark from having the senior year for which he hoped, but they did not stop him from serving as an inspiration to all of us as he persevered in the pool and out. Clark will be attending Salisbury State University in January. Emily Baker -- The Hurricanes welcomed back Emily Baker who returned from college to swim her final year of eligibility with the team. Emily attended Towson University and Montgomery College this year. In the fall, she heads to the University of Maryland. In addition to swimming for the the team for the past 13 years, Emily also has served as Junior and co-Pre Team Coach.
