Hallowell Hurricanes B Meet Procedures

Eligible Swimmers

  • A swimmer may swim a total of 3 individual strokes and 1 individual medley (IM) during the course of a swim week (Sat-Wed) whether in an A Meet or in a B meet.
  • Swimmers may not swim any event in a B Meet that they swam in the preceding week’s A Meet. For example, if Henry Hurricane swam Breast & Fly in the preceding week’s A Meet, he now may choose to swim the IM in the B Meet, along with either free or back, bringing him to a total of 4 events for the week.
  • Swimmers who participate in 4 events in the preceding week’s A Meet, may swim Exhibition in the following B Meet IF they receive coach’s approval AND there is room in that event for the extra swimmer. Exhibition swimmers do not score points for the team and do not receive ribbons. Their time is recorded and included within the team’s Top Times Report, which is used by the Coaches to determine the A Meet line-up. Exhibition swimmers must wear an orange swim cap during the event, which is provided for them by the team. This is to let the other swimmers and spectators know that this swimmer’s performance does not count towards the outcome of the race or meet.
  • Pre-team swimmers who can swim a length of the pool comfortably may check with their pre-team coaches about their eligibility to swim in a B Meet.
  • Only swimmers 9 & above may enter the 12 & under IM event.
  • The Coaches have the final say on all B Meet sign-ups and reserve the right to remove swimmers from any event. If this is necessary, they will alert the swimmer prior to the Meet.

B Meet Registration

1. Swimmers are required to sign up for EACH B Meet by the close of Monday evening practice on the Monday preceding the meet.

2. A listing of all swimmers and eligible events is contained in a bright blue notebook that is placed on the front desk of Hallowell pool by the Friday morning preceding the next B Meet. Swimmers interested in swimming that meet, should place an "X" the events they are interested in swimming.

3. If there are events for which the swimmer is ineligible to swim, either because he or she swam the event in the preceding A Meet or because the swimmer is not yet legal in a particular stroke, these events will be "X’ed" out by the coaches and/or the Team Rep.

4. If swimmers know they will not be swimming in the upcoming B Meet, it is helpful to the team if they let the Automation Coordinator know this by writing a note beside their name in the listing.

5. If you are going to be away during the time of B Meet sign-ups, you may place a note in the Automation Coordinator’s Family Folder (Loiacono Family), stating the swimmer’s name(s) and the event(s) the swimmer(s) wants to swim.

6. If a swimmer signs up for a B Meet and then is unable to attend the Meet, it is helpful if you let the coaches or Team Reps know as soon as possible so that the team may scratch you from the meet.

7. Swimmers who are unable to get to the pool to sign up for the meet may contact the Automation Coordinator by e-mail (KLoiacono5@msn.com) or phone (301-570-3469). PLEASE try not to abuse this privilege by following the procedures above. If you do send an e-mail, please know that your swimmers(s) are not considered registered for the meet unless you have received a return e-mail confirmation from the Automation Coordinator (Kathy Loiacono)

2.       All swimmers must be legal in the stroke they are swimming and must swim 25 meters (1 length) of the stroke in one minute or less.
3.       If a swimmer swims a stroke at an "A" meet, he/she cannot swim that stroke in the "B" meet. As a courtesy, if an "A" swimmer misses an "A"        meet and is planning to swim their "A" stroke in the following "B" meet, the swimmer should swim exhibition.
4.       A swimmer may swim a total of 3 individual strokes and 1 individual medley during the course of a swim week (Sat-Wed).
5.       Only swimmers 9 & above may enter the 12 & under IM event.
6.       Exhibition swimmers are allowed only based on coaches’ discretion/judgment and must wear an orange swim cap.

MEET RIBBONS:
1. Heat winner ribbons will be awarded by the Home team.
2. Place ribbons will be provided by the Home team through 10th place, and participant ribbons to all other swimmers.
3. Exhibition swimmers are not eligible for heat winner or place winner ribbons. They will receive participant ribbons, which will record their time.
4.      The 8 & under events will no longer be broken down for ribbons into 6 & under and 7 & under.

B RELAY CARNIVAL ENTRIES:

1.    All 12 & under swimmers who swim in one or more events in the A Relay Carnival may not swim in the B Relay Carnival.
2.      All 13 & over swimmers who swim in two or more events may not swim in the "B" Relay Carnival.
3.      Swimmers may be "swum up" into a higher age group if the team does not have and other eligible swimmers available in that age group.
