2008 Coaches Jessica Prorok returns to Hallowell for her fourteenth season and her twelfth as head coach. She swam in MCSL for thirteen years with the Tanterra Swim Team and on the Sherwood High School Team. Jessica spends the winters coaching Advanced Juniors, Senior, Minis, and Swim Montgomery at the Olney Indoor Swim Center. During the offseason, Jessica works for Montgomery County Public Schools at Cloverly Elementary. She will be pursuing her Master’s in Education through the University of MD in the fall. Matt Cohen returns for his second year of coaching the Hurricanes. Matt swam for Mill Creek Towne in MCSL for 14 years, setting several team and pool records. He also swam for RMSC and Good Counsel High School. Matt has coached with RMSC for seven years and currently runs the Advanced Senior and Junior 2 groups. He also has coached MCSL teams for nine years, seven as a head coach. Sarah Krehbiel is an original Hurricane member, swimming 13 years for the team, and now returning for her sixth year of coaching. A 2004 graduate of Sherwood High School, Sarah attends the University of Maryland, where she is majoring in Early Childhood Education. After a fun summer with the Hurricanes, Sarah will begin student teaching in the fall. D.J. Carswell and Shannon Krehbiel return for their third year as head pre-team coaches. Both are long time Hurricane swimmers and recent Sherwood High School graduates. They coached for the Stroke & Turn Clinic and the SwiMontgomery program at the Olney pool over the winter. D.J. will attend Auburn University in the fall and Shannon will attend the University of Maryland. Other Hallowell swimmers serving as Junior Assistant Coaches helping out with the Pre-Team and our 12 & under swimmers include: Colin Conrad, Nicole Berry, Katie Murray, Kaitlin Berry, and Michael Flamand. Our coaches are happy to address any concerns or questions you may have about your swimmer, but please wait until practice is over to approach them. During practice, it is necessary that all parents and other observers stay off the deck during practice. The coaches can give a certain amount of attention to each swimmer during practice. If you feel your child would benefit from private lessons, most all the coaches will be available (at a set fee). We highly encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity. To contact a coach for lessons, comments, or concerns please leave a note in the Coaches folder, located at the pool’s entrance desk. Our coaches have a great deal of responsibility looking out for the safety and well being of our children. Please show them the respect and consideration that they deserve. If you have any issues or concerns regarding one of our team coaches, please try to address the issue directly with the coach or through the Head Coach. If this does not resolve the issue, then please speak with a Team Rep. We are interested in making sure this is a fair and fun season for everyone.
